DMU AT DMO !!

Its been a consistent and long pending demand of all of us that the administration of SPARK be decentralized. Finally the call is heeded to and we have our own man Mr. Anishkumar T.R as DMU at  the District Medical Office Ernakulam. You can get his details and contact number from the quiries tab on SPARK. While we all welcome this step as this would facilitate better support mechanism and resolution of issues with SPARK at the user level. We need to think big and make the best of this facility. The DMU has virtually all the establishment and accounts data (at least of salaries & wages) at the click of a mouse button. We should and must utilize this data base to reduce duplication of work. The entire service register of  every officers of the department is now available in a digital format on line through SPARK. Which means quiries on where-abouts, vacancy position, cadre register, LWA, Seniority, ID transfer, Training and numerous other establishment matters should ideally end now. Data on accounts like expenditure details is also available on line. In short, we do have a treasure of  valuable data on line, make the best use of it. Keep mining and find out little gems and diamonds of precious data that are useful.

The DMU also needs infrastructural support to optimize his performance. He/She should at least have two computers, one each with broad band and KSWAN connectivity. They also need back up facilities for data and back up power supply. Its high time we think about setting up a computer cell at the District Medical Office with the DMU in charge of the cell. Electronic Data Processing (EDP) would cut down transaction time, costs, reduce or eliminate errors, avoid duplication of work, increase efficiency and ensure job satisfaction. Certainly, its the right way and the best way forward. Else, we would continue to be running around in circles ( starting and finishing at the same place, despite running so hard every time) .........................................how do u feel about the issue ?  Please voice your opinion.

KERALA STATE WIDE AREA NET WORK (KSWAN)

Under utilization of KSWAN

Connectivity under KSWAN project has been established in almost all institutions of HSD in the district. However from peer to peer feed back it is understood that this facility is not been utilized optimally. The reasons are varied.

 (i) Difficulties in inter-operability of KSWAN & Broad Band connection over same PC
due to variance in technical specifications. (static & dynamic host control protocols)

(ii) Lack of dedicated computers for KSWAN

(iii) Difficulties in configuring  the PC and browsers to access KSWAN.

(iv) KSWAN does not have a search engine as of now.

(v) One need to know the exact URL (address) of the cite to access it.

(vi) Only government sites are available on KSWAN etc.. etc

While it is acknowledged that there are technical issues which may not be comprehensible to un-inititated users. We must make all out efforts to understand the niti-grities (I can promise you they are not as complex as you may believe it to be) and try to fully utilize this facility because the advantages far out weigh its teething troubles. The advantages are :-

(i) Its free of cost . There are no monthly payments to be made for use of the network.

(ii) Its really fast. Being a dedicated network its congestion or clog free i.e you can up-load & down-load much faster than on your broad band connection.

(iii) Its secure. Being an intra-net with a closely held architect, the network has high security i.e very low or negligible chances of Virus, Malware, Trojans, Cookies or Spy-ware infecting your PC. The possibility of hostile hacking of your computer and data over KSWAN is also negligible or non existent.

Do we need Broad Band & KSWAN simultaneously ?

Yes we do, we need the world wide web at least until the KSWAN offers us a search engine (some thing like the google) and an Email service (like Gmail or Yahoo mail). Even after that you may need the broad band connection for accessing non governmental sites. For example you cant access KPSC web site over KSWAN.

Help & Support

I would be happy to assist you with issues on KSWAN (subject to the limitation of my knowledge). Please feel free to contact over telephone 9446346609 or Email to gopakumarmt@gmail.com
